Over one hundred young people from all over the Nordic and Baltic Sea region are gathering in Åland, Finland on the 9-13 August to discuss and strategise for the greatest crisis of our times and ask politicians and change-makers of the region to commit to building a sustainable future.
ReGeneration 2030 is a fully youth-led organisation, uniting young activists for sustainability from the Nordic and Baltic Sea region. Its main annual festival ReGeneration Week is the biggest youth event on sustainability and climate activism in the region, created by youth, to youth.
“Meeting other activists in different contexts has been game-changing for me personally. It’s made me a better organiser and activist. In spaces like these, we grow as individuals and as a movement, and gain perspectives and skills that are essential when we continue the fight.” - Alva Danielsson, Movement coordinator
This year's theme “Rethink, Reimagine, Reclaim” will invite participants to engage in workshops, talks, panel discussions and cultural events, all set to understand the core drivers of the climate crisis, imagine an alternative more sustainable system and strategise how to transition to it fast enough. The theme is also set to transform the fear and negative feelings surrounding the state of climate into hope and eagerness for action to transform the system.
ReGeneration Week will also once again create a space for much-needed intergenerational dialogue. Politicians, NGOs and business leaders are set to join the youth and engage in the discussion on the triple planetary crisis and strategise together for effective and bold solutions to accomplish needed changes by 2030.
“Intergenerational dialogues hold great significance and are key to making change happen, as they combine the wisdom and experience of different age groups, leading to innovative solutions and fostering understanding and empathy. Too often, the voices of young people are overheard, but by having these dialogues, we are bridging the gap between generations so that everyone can share their perspectives and experiences equally. Collective action is needed for a more sustainable future, and I believe collective wisdom is a step in the right direction.” - Emilia Nygård, Chairperson
Building on previously democratically adopted ReGeneration 2030’s Position Paper (2022), youth participants will also create a vision of a more sustainable system which will be shaped into an Open Letter and addressed to the regional and national policy-makers of the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.
“The need for political advocacy on crucially needed just sustainable transformation is greater than ever. Therefore, ReGeneration 2030 is extremely excited and honoured for ReGeneration Week 2024 to be a place where the ideas for the Youth Open Letter will be created, discussed and set. We will proudly bring this document to the decision-makers of our region and high-level events” - Ugnė Budriūnaitė, Acting Secretary-General
